My first music video!
18 August 2011 - 09:33
You guuuuys, it's been so long!

Here's a special treat: the Random Words Song, complete with stunning artwork, old movie effects and me in a pretty dress. It's amazing what you can do with an old video camera and free video editing software. Anyway, I'd love for you to watch it, and of course I'd love for you to share it with your friends too - Facebook and Twitter are wonderful things people, and if you'd like to see a new album from me I'm going to need some more people to hear about my music!  If Rebecca Black can go viral with 'Friday', I don't see why you and me can't harness the powers of the internet for good rather than evil - so if you like what I'm doing, tell the world!

Random Words...
31 May 2011 - 13:01
Soooo, if you were at our show on Friday night you will have heard the worldwide debut of the Random Words Song!  If I get some time this week I intend to make a special vlog for those of you who couldn't make it, especially as Lesley and I spent about 4 hours making artistic cards with the words on, so they definitely deserve more than one airing!

If you're still not in the loop after all this time, the Random Words Song was born a couple of months ago when I flippantly asked people on Facebook and Twitter to suggest words I could put in future songs.  I didn't really have any intention of using them, but the suggestions I received were so odd that I couldn't resist the challenge of trying to write a proper, sensible song incorporating words like 'turret', 'oozing' and 'flugelhorn'.  I had so much fun with this I might make it an annual event.  But for now, here are the full lyrics to the Random Words Song, with fan suggestions in red, and the original demo for you to listen to.  There are a couple of cheats in the last section.  I'm okay with that, but you can sue me if you like.  :)

Yeah, that's right - I was just waiting for you
Brushing my hair in this tower, it's got turrets and everything
How'd you find me way up here?
It's a dream come true - when I imagined my knight, I pictured you
With your iPhone, and your condescending tone
Don't stop me, I'm on a roll
I'm sorry you know

Didn't you get my sarcasm?
I laid it on with a spatula
baby,
I ladled it over you while you looked on
With a confused frown

Yeah, that's right - I was just twiddling my thumbs
Sitting alone in my wigwam, wishing some handsome explorer would take me away
And show me the world
All the things I've been missing: skyscrapers, motorways, billboards and blimps
What would I do without you beside me to help me avoid all the muggers and pimps?
Don't stop me, I'm on a roll
I'm sorry but no

Didn't you get my sarcasm?
I laid it on with a spatula baby,
I ladled it over you while you looked on
With a confused frown

Well I guess it's just a minor misdemeanour
To imagine I need ya so desperately
But don't get me wrong, if I'm being battered with a flugelhorn
Or strangled by an anaconda
Your help will be welcome
But uh-oh, here I go again

With my unhelpful sarcasm
Laying it on with a spatula baby
I ladle it over you while you look on
Just oozing confusion, oh

We'll never resolve all "detention" between us
"Yurt" too much Mars, and I'm too much Venus
We'll never resolve all "detention" between us
"Yurt" too much Mars, and I'm too much Venus
The best we can do is bring this song to a timely, expedient end.........

Well, that's it: the Random Words Song.  You're welcome.

Love and grey skies,
annaJo x

Gig this Friday. :D!!!!
23 May 2011 - 15:21
Hi folks, here's a new video!

annaJo Vlog 6: "Held"

In other news, I'm playing at the Fidler's Elbow in Camden this Friday with a full band - it's going to be amazing, so please come if you can.  You'll be treated to some other fantastic acts, it really is going to be a top quality night.  Andrew and I will also be playing at the Tanners Arms on Sunday 5th June.  Full details of both these gigs are on my Facebook page.  I'll be arranging more gigs soon so keep your eyes peeled.

I'm getting into a lot of new music lately, so I thought I'd share some with you.  Check out these for starters:

Pomplamoose - 'Achin' Heart'

The Civil Wars - 'Barton Hollow'

And this gorgeous animation 'Thought Of You', set to 'World Spins Madly On' by The Weepies.  I bought the album this song is from and am loooooving it.

That's all for today... hope to see you on Friday!

Blogginess

Okay, here's a proper blog, finally! So you can do that RSS thing if you want to be kept up to date with my news, and all will be well.

News for today is that you can download three of the tracks Andrew and I played at the Tanners Arms last Thursday, for FREE.  I love free stuff, and I'm guessing you do too.  Just go to the music page and knock yourself out!  Not literally.

I also have a simple-to-use and nice-to-look-at new store, where you can buy my album easier than ever.  If you want to download it, it'll cost you a whole pound less than iTunes, and if you want the CD (which you should, because the artwork is gorgeous), you can buy as many copies as you like AND get the downloads for free, straight away, so you don't even have to wait for the postman!  It's a great system, so please take advantage of it!  Alternatively if you live in the UK you can also buy the CD from my Facebook store and get a sweet discount if you 'like' my page. :)

On April 5th I'm playing at the Green Dragon in Croydon, and there should be more gigs announced in the very near future, including more dates at the Tanners Arms and a very special London event in May.  Keep your ears to the internet: you'll hear it here first.

Ciao lovelies, and see you soooon!
